Summer Sippin’

I’m always looking for a simple drink to serve for company or bring to a party.

Recently we enjoyed dinner at one of our favorite restaurants, Handlebar, and instead of ordering a beer I tried something different.

They call it a Dark & Crabby, and I believe it was a combination of ginger, lime and a bit of dark rum.

Last weekend’s progressive dinner was the perfect excuse to try out this drink, and it was surprisingly simple!

  • 1-2 oz dark rum
  • juice from 1 lime
  • top off the glass with ginger beer (Ginger beer is non-alcoholic and can be found at most grocery stores including Trader Joe’s.  If you can’t find it, I’m sure ginger ale would work too!)

If you’re looking for a fun, refreshing, not-too-sweet drink to make for company or bring to a BBQ, I recommend this drink.  The ginger beer adds a really fresh flavor and the lime brightens it up, combining to make the perfect summer cocktail!  (If you’re looking for other interesting summer cocktails, check out The Sisters’ Palette’s recent post!)

What’s your favorite drink to sip in the summer?

  1. This looks great Jess – when we were in Bermuda they called this drink a Dark and Stormy! Fresh Ginger Beer and Dark Rum garnished with a lime and it was soooo good!
